In a year flush with video-game-company layoffs and restructuring, Bandai Namco has reportedly canceled several titles including games featuring One Piece and Naruto licenses. In addition to those games, there was reportedly an unnamed contract project with Nintendo that has been shuttered as well.In a report by Bloomberg, coinciding with the projects being terminated, it’s stated that the company is taking a traditional “Japanese approach to reduce staff and sending workers to rooms where they are given nothing to do, putting pressure on them to leave voluntarily” so they don’t receive any form of severance. The method is commonly referred to as oidashibeya, meaning “expulsion room.” The result has led to almost 100 resignations, but the company insists there is no such tactic in place.”Our decisions to discontinue games are based on comprehensive assessments of the situation,” a Bandai Namco representative said. “Some employees may need to wait a certain amount of time before they are assigned their next project, but we do move forward with assignments as new projects emerge.”Over the summer, the company further shuttered its long-running Tales of the Rays mobile game and said …
Apple introduced the iPhone 16 on September 9, promising a souped-up five-core GPU that can support hardware-accelerated ray tracing and play AAA games previously only available on the iPhone 15 Pro. Here’s what we know so far about the next iPhone’s gaming capabilities. While Apple’s announcement for the iPhone 16 has a strong focus on generative AI, it also showed off how the device’s five-core GPU will deliver higher performance for more demanding games. Thanks to the new A18 GPU, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus can now support hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which Apple says can model light with up to five times higher frame rates than software-based ray tracing.

You’ve seen Sonic the Hedgehog, but have you ever seen Sonic the Duck? Instead of being constructed from water-resistant rubber, he’s now a soft duckie that’s just asking to be hugged. And because duckie scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should have made a Dr. Eggman plush as well.

Throne and Liberty does a great job of feeling like a return to the glory days of MMOs, but that doesn’t mean it eschews every modern feature or convenience. This free-to-play adventure has a lot of efficient mechanics to help players feel like they have choices in its massive world. However, you may be wondering if that extends to cross-progression and cross-play functionality. Well, we have good news and bad news–so let’s dive in and find out.
Does Throne and Liberty have cross-progression (AKA cross-save)?
So, the bad news first: Throne and Liberty does not support cross-progression at this time. As such, if you purchase the game on more than one platform, you’ll have to start entirely new accounts and characters on each.

When I think of developer MachineGames, I think of dual-wielding shotguns in its Wolfenstein games, sprinting down tight corridors with guns blazing as the walls get a fresh coat of Nazi blood. After all, MachineGames’ entire portfolio up to this point has been built on the brazen revival of Wolfenstein–a series of five no-holds-barred, blood-soaked action thrill-rides. And damn did it do it well. It’s why I was caught by surprise when seeing its next game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is putting an emphasis on more methodical combat that will have you solving puzzles and using the environment as your weapon, rather than shooting your way out of every scenario and being covered in Nazi blood in the process (’tis a shame).”It is always a big challenge to go from something known, into the unknown of what the Indiana Jones game was for us,” Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s design director, Jens Andersson, told GameSpot at Gamescom 2024. “It’s tough, because the way [MachineGames] is used to working–how we build levels, how we design enemies–everything is coming from this action [focus]. And now we’re coming at it from a different side. So it took a long time. Like, hones…
If you’re one of the many folks who have been experiencing superhero fatigue in recent years, it may actually be that it’s not the superheroes themselves that you’re tired of. Instead, it might simply be that you’re over all these empty spectacles that don’t have anything to say. Entertainment is good, but entertainment with substance is better. Fortunately for you, the complete run of the early 1990s cartoon Captain Planet, including all six seasons, is being released on DVD for the first time on October 15. Preorders are live now at Amazon.

Black Ops 6 arrives on October 25, and tons of new information was revealed for multiplayer and Warzone during Activision’s Call of Duty: Next event on August 28, including live gameplay featuring Treyarch’s new omnimovement system. GameSpot was able to attend the event and speak with Treyarch about the changes in development for the new shared engine and how it enabled the studio to create Call of Duty’s new advanced movement. The last Treyarch game was 2020’s Black Ops Cold War, which was a Call of Duty that was created on a shorter development cycle and required a pivot to work-from-home conditions during the pandemic. Now, Treyarch is back in the action again with an extended four-year development cycle for Black Ops 6, and it is the studio’s first game on Call of Duty’s new shared engine, which was introduced with 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 reboot.
